Determine your size for shampoo bowl sinks

Another application of the Flex P-trap is in a Beauty Salon, because of its self-cleaning of hair and its flexibility for tilting shampoo bowls. When the shampoo bowl travels up and down, an expandable hose is used witch in time will leak, because there is too much friction in the ribs. The Flex P-trap is not expandable but rolls up and down to increase and decrease the water seal of the p-trap. The Flex p-trap works very good when the shampoo bowl is in full up position, and a little slower when the shampoo bowl is in the full down position because of the deep water seal, but the ribs will increase the speed of water. See the video-clip at Fig.37

The Flex P-trap can easily replace the 14 inch and 18 inch Flexible drain hoses.

G=10 inches or less

H= length of existing tailpiece

If A it’s less that H, for tilting bowl use flex p-trap for Shampoo Bowl connected directly to the strainer with brass nut.

5 inches-- horizontal arm used (total length of horizontal arm 7 inches)

L=H-2+13+5=H+16 for tilting bowl

13 inches---length of U shape of trap with 4 inches deep water seal (4+4+5)

L=H-A+2+ 13+5=H-A+20 for stationary bowel

If A it’s over H, for water seal 4 inches, tilting or stationary bowl length of p-trap will be L= A-H+20

For minimum water seal 3 inches (constructive 3+3+5) and adjustable bowl, (up and down) length of Flexible drain hose (p-trap without horizontal arm) will be:

L=A-H +11+2+T=A-H+13+T       T= travel

L= A-H+13+T

For H=4;   A=14; T=12

L=14-4+13 +12=35 inches

Lmax=L+5=35+5=40  (length of Flex p-trap)

T= (S-3) x 2

S—max water seal

S=T/2+3=12/2+3=9 inches

P-trap with 9 inches deep water seal shampoo bowl can travel up and down 12 inches. Maximum travel for all shampoo bowls is12 inches.

Question:

 How I will know if this will fit my shampoo bowl?

  1. If your shampoo bowl has a tailpiece, the Flex p-trap will fit.
  2. If your shampoo bowl has a strainer 1-1/2 size (1-1/2 inches male thread on the bottom of the strainer assembly) the Flex p-trap will fit.

If your shampoo bowl has a tailpiece and you want to keep the existing p-trap, you can buy the Flex p-trap with plastic coupling 1-1/2-kit with length L=A-H +3 (1 inches for assembly, 2 inches for coupling) because Flex p-trap can be connected with the existing p-trap (plastic or brass). Tthe Flexible drain hose can be cut to any length you need but the shampoo bowl can to be tilt only.

If you want to be able to move the bowl up and down, you have to replace the existing p-trap too.

If your shampoo bowl does not have a tailpiece and you want to keep the existing p-trap, you can buy the Tube connector strainer 1-1/2-kit (with brass nuts) with length L=A+1 (1 inches for assembly) but shampoo bowl can be tilt only. The Tube connector can be cut to any length you need.

If you want to be able to move the bowl up and down, you have to replace the existing p-trap too.

Shampoo Bowl

H= length of existing tailpiece

Length of horizontal arm max 5 inches and min 3 inches.

Length of U shape of p-trap 3 inches deep water seal 11 inches (3+3+5)

For minimum water seal 3 inches (constructive) and adjustable bowl, (up and down) length of Flexible drain hose (p-trap without horizontal arm) will be:

L=A-H +11+T+2=A-H+13+T  L=A-H+T+13

T= travel

Lmax=L+5 (length of Flex p-trap)

For H=4;   A=14;  T=12

L=14-4+12 +13=35 inches

T= (S-3) x 2

Lmax= L+5=35+5=40

S--max water seal

S=T/2+3=12/2+3=9 inches

With a P-trap with 9 inches deep water seal, the shampoo bowl can travel up and down 12 inches. Maximum travel for all shampoo bowls is 12 inches.

If your shampoo bowl has a tailpiece and you want to keep the existing p-trap. you can buy the Flex p-trap with plastic coupling 1-1/2-kit with length L=A-H +3  (1 inches for assembly) because the Flex p-trap can be connected with existing p-trap ( plastic or brass). The p-trap can be cut to any length you need, but the shampoo bowl will tilt only, because Flex p-trap is not expandable. If you want to be able to move the bowl up and down, you have to replace existing p-trap too.

If your shampoo bowl does not have a tailpiece and you want to keep the existing p-trap, you can buy the Tube connector strainer 1-1/2-kit (with brass nuts or plastic nuts) with length L=A+2, but the shampoo bowl will be tilt only.

The Tube connector can be cut to any length you need, but the shampoo bowl will be tilt only, because the Flex p-trap is not expandable. If you want to be able to move the bowl up and down, you have to replace the existing p-trap too.
